Wellaboro loat a 21-13 non-league football game on Saturday to Marian Catholic in Hometown.

The Hornets, who fell to 2-3 on the season, fell behind 21-0 in the third period, than rallied to score the game's last two touchdowns and fell eight points short.

Marian Catholic scored two first quarter touchdowns to jump out to an early 14-0 lead. Mike Bielen hauled in a 34 yard scoring pass from quarterback Brent Andrew to take an early 7-0 lead.

Justin Andrews' one yard run, coupled with Tom McCarroll's extra point, put the Hornets behind 14-0.

After a scoreless second period, the Marian Catholic lead swelled to 21-0 in the third stanza when Jim Dirzulaitis scored on a four yard run. At that point, Wellsboro rallied, but came up one touchdown short.

Tony Dinsmore got the visitors on the board when he caught a six yard scoring pass from Hornet quarterback Jay Young. Following Ché Regina's extra point boot, Wellsboro trailed 21-7.

Regina added the game's final six points when he picked off a Marian Catholic pass at his own 46-yard line and returned it 55 yards for a score. The two point conversion try was unsuccessful and the game ended 21-13.

Ian Carson ran the ball well for the Hornets, gaining 118 yards on 21 carries. Young completed six of 11 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. He was intercepted once.

This Friday night, October 7, Wellsboro hosts Canton in their Homecoming contest. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
