Troy scored the first 26 prints of the game Friday night en route to 29-14 football win over Wellsboro at Troy. The loss dropped Wellsboro to 5-4 on the season, 2-3 in Northern Tier League action. Troy is 2-6-1 overall.
Trojan quarterback Jason Vermilya scored one first half touchdown and threw for two more as Troy opened up a 19-0 lead by intermission.
Osgood's one yard blast early in the third put the boats on top 26-0. Osgood ended the night with 104 rushing yards in 15 carries.
At that point, Wellsboro rallied to make the game closer. Mitch Marzo raced 63 yards to paydirt to make it 26-7, then quarterback John Lundgren, subbing for the injured Jay Young, scored on a one yard sneak to cut the Troy lead to 26-14 after three quarters.
The only scoring in the fourth quarter waa a 37 yard field goal by Trojan kicker Giesler.
Vermilya finished with eight completions on 13 tries for two touchdowns. He was intercepted once. He scored on a first quarter three yard run, the threw two second period touchdown passes, a 15 yarder to Swatsworth and a 23 yarder to Morgan.
Jared Mahon was Wellsboro's top ground gainer, churning out 87 yards on 10 carries. Marzo finished with 70 yards on 12 totes.
Young was one for seven for 19 yards before going down with a rib injury. Lundgren completed three of seven throws for 61 yards. Neither quarterback was intercepted. The Hornets were also penalized nine times for 104 yards.
Wellaboro's final regular season game is a home NTL contest vervus Wyalusing. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. this Friday, November 4.
