The Wyalusing Ram defense stifled Wellsboro's potent running attack Friday night, handing the Hornets a 21-6 home football loss in their 1994 regular season finale.

Wellsboro finished their campaign 5-5 overall, 2-4 in Northern Tier League play.

Their season is not over, though. On Saturday, November 12, they travel to Lake Lehman to play a 1:00 p.m. Eastern Conference playoff game versus the Black Knights. Tickets for this game are available at the Wellsboro High School Office.

Wyalusing's key to the win, their eighth of the year, was their ability to control the line of scrimmage.

The Rams held Wellsboro to 37 yards rushing on the night, a 1.4 yard per cany average.

Both teams were not sharp on offense, as they combined for 10 turnovers, six by Wyalusing and four by the Hornets.

The Rams did manage to muster 15 first half points.

In the opening stanza, Eric Brown scored on a five yard run, following a 32 yard punt return deep into Hornet territory. Trevor Woodruff's extra point put the Rams on top 7-0.

The lead increased to 15-0 in the second quarter when running back Dave McCarty bulled over from a yard out. Matt Hanley then hit Ryan Johns with a two-point conversion pass.

Early in the third period, Wyalusing scored again, this time on a 15 yard pass from Woodruff to Steve Johns. The kick missed, putting the Rams comfortably ahead, 21-0.

Wellsboro averted a shutout late in the game when quarterback Jay Young found the end zone from a yard out.

Both teams could muster only 14 total first downs (seven each) and netted only 246 yards of total offense between them.

Ian Carson ran the ball 17 times for 38 Hornet yards, one more than their total rushing offense (including tackles for losses).

Young completed four passes on the night, three of them going to Russ Manney for 40 yards. Jared Mahon caught one for 20 yards.

Wyalusing finished in a tie for first in the NTL with Athens, both posting 6-0-1 league marks. Overall, the Rams were 8-1-1.
