The Wellsboro Hornet football team overcame some early turnovers to down Jersey Shore Saturday night, 28-6.

The game, originally scheduled for Friday night at Jersey Shore, was postponed 24 hours due to inclement weather.

Wellsboro improved to 3-0 with the non-league win, 1-0 in Northern Tier League action. Jersey Shore fell to 1-2.

Two of Wellsboro's three turnovers on the night came in the first quarter but the Hornet defense shut down the hosts to keep the opening stanza scoreless. A 14 point second period gave Wellsboro all the points they would need this night.

Andy DeLeonardis scored first on a one yard run. Dave Laczi's point after kick put the Hornets on top, 7-0.

Later in the quarter, Mitch Marzo was on the receiving end of Wellsboro's lone pass completion, a three yard toss on fourth and goal. Laczi's kick made it 14-0 at the half.

Following a scoreless third quarter, the Hornets put the game away in the final period.

Matt Kennedy's 36 yard touch down run and Laczi's pat made it 21-0. Kennedy finished as the game's top rusher, gaining 189 yards on 22 carries.

Jersey Shore scored the only points the Hornet defense has allowed this year when Chris Dauber found the end zone on a 57 yard pass from quarterback Joe Feerar. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

Marzo closed out the scoring late in the fourth quarter, bagging his second touchdown of the evening on a three yard run. Wellsboro racked up 310 rushing yards as their offensive line was able to dominate the line of scrimmage.

In addition to Kennedy's 189 yards, DeLeonardis ran for 56 yards on 15 attempts and Marzo finished with 48 yards on 11 carries.

The Hornet quarterbacks John Lundgren and Kyle Norton only attempted four passes for the game, completing one to Marzo for a touchdown.

Wellsboro's defense also dominated, limiting Jersey Shore to 160 yards of total offense.

This Friday night, the Hornets host Sayre at 7:00 p.m. in their annual homecoming contest.
