The Wellsboro Hornet Football team posted their second consecutive shutout of the season, downing Towanda 32-0 at Towanda Friday evening.

Last week Wellsboro shutout North Penn, 21-0.

The Hornet defense held the Black Knights to seven first downs and 119 yards of total offense. They also picked off two passes.

Andy DeLeonardis put Wellsboro on the scoreboard in the first quarter, scoring on a four yard run. He finished the night with 47 yards on 11 carries.

The Hornet lead stretched to 19-0 by halftime on second period touchdowns by Matt Kennedy and Ed Murphy.

Kennedy ran in from six yards out, Murphy caught a seven yard touchdown strike from quarterback John Lundgren.

It only took about 10 seconds of the third quarter for the Wellsboro lead to bulge to 25-0. Kennedy took the opening second half kickoff on his own 10-yard line and raced 90 yards into the Black Knight end zone.

A two yard quarterback keeper by Lundgren later in the third stanza closed out the scoring. Mitch Marzo led a balanced Wellsboro ground attack, churning out a game high 80 yards on 13 carries. Kennedy managed 67 yards on 18 carries.

Lundgren, who threw only four passes all night, completed two of them, including the touchdown to Murphy. Marzo caught the other completion for 16 yards.

This Friday, Wellsboro hits the road again, this time to Jersey Shore for a non-league encounter. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Hornets win over Towanda gives them a 1-0 Northern Tier League record. They are 2-0 overall.
