Hornets downed by Towanda.

The Wellsboro Green Hornets offense sputtered and groaned last Friday night when they went to Towanda to take on the Black Knights in what would result in Wellsboro's fourth loss of the season.
The win was just the fourth win for Towanda in the last 39 games, a stretch of four years. During those four seasons the Black Knights dealt with problems much like what Wellsboro faces now: youth and lack of size. This year, at least when an even younger and smaller Wellsboro came to town, those problems did not matter very much for Towanda.
"They won that game in the weight room," Wellsboro Head Coach Keith Dills said about the Black Knights' bigger squad.
The Towanda offensive and defensive line had control of the line of scrimmage from the get go. They disrupted both Wellsboro's passing game with stunts up the middle and the running game by meeting the ballcarrier in the backfield.
That defensive effort resulted in just 160 total yards of offense for the Green Hornets. Shane Mascho led the Green Hornets on the ground by rushing 10 times for 72 yards.
Ike Rivers was Wellsboro's next leading rusher with just 13 yards on five carries. The Towanda defense and lack of time to get set pretty much shut Wellsboro quarterback Jarred Regina as well.
Last week, Regina scrambled for three touchdowns, threw another touchdown, and ran back an interception for his fourth touchdown of the night. That performance earned him a nomination to the Big 33 game.
The first quarter of the game resulted in a scoreless tie. It was, however, played completely in Wellsboro's end of the field.
The short field Towanda played with set up their first touchdown of the game, a nine yard pass play. Dunn threw another touchdown later in the quarter to put Towanda up 13-0. That was all they needed, but they scored another touchdown on their first drive of the second half. They also added a field goal in the third quarter to end the scoring for the night.
With the 23-0 shutout, Wellsboro falls to 1-4 overall. Wellsboro will take on Canton in the Green Hornet homecoming game this Friday night. Canton owns the best record in the league and is just coming off from a 20-7 victory over powerhouse Wyalusing last week.
