The Wellsboro football squad could not manage a score in last Fnday night's contest with Wyalusing as they fell to the Rams 37-0 at home.

It is not going to get any easier for Wellsboro this week when powerhouse South Williamsport comes to Wellsboro to take on the Green Hornets. Last year, South was the runner up in the state championships.

"It is going to be a David versus Goliath type game. We are going to go there with our slingshot and try to get something done," Wellsboro Head Coach Keith Dils said. "They came up and scrimmaged against us in the pre-season and we held our own. We have nothing to lose right now. The pressure is all on them."

Wellsboro will not have one of their key weapons back in time for the contest. Jarred Regina, who has seen time at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and cornerback, is out for the season with an ankle injury that occurred last week in practice.

"Jarred is done for the year. But, that is just part of the course for us. We have been constantly plugging people into positions because of injuries. There have only been a couple of games when we have had our entire backfield healthy, and we have continually been replacing players on the line," Dils said.

Wellsboro played Wyalusing strong last week in the opening quarter, holding them to no points early on. The Ram offense, however, took advantage of some Wellsboro mistakes and scored twice in both the second and third quarters. They added another touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

"We were playing tough, going toe to toe with them. It is not as if we weren't moving the ball," Dils said. "We just made some crucial mistakes at crucial times. We aren't good enough right now to make those kinds of mistakes and still win. We have to play a flawless game to win. I think we have it in us, we just need to do it."

Wellsboro committed seven penalties in the game for a total set back of 50 yards. They also gave up a key fumble that led to Wyalusing's first score of the night.

The Green Hornets gained only 134 yards of total offense to Wyalusing's 270. Shane Mascho led the Wellsboro offense with 54 yards on 13 carries.

"We give teams some chances and we just can't do that," Dils said "But, the kids are still working hard. Our win-loss record doesn't show it, but we have had some victories within the team. Kids have overcome obstacles and have proven themselves."

Despite only a single win in his first year as head coach, Dils is proud of the team and their work ethic.

"All of the players work hard, both in games and in practice," Dils said. "Travis Rawson, one of our linemen, is a perfect example of everything good about Wellsboro football. He doesn't talk a lot or run his mouth. He isn't arrogant. He, like the rest of this team, is a steady blue collar type of a player who goes out every week and makes good plays."
