The Wellsboro Green Hornets football squad traveled to Warrior Run Friday night October 15 and had their offense shut down completely as they were blanked 47-0 by the Defenders.

"I felt that we defeated ourselves Friday night," Wellsboro head football coach Mike Pietropola said. "Our kids didn't play the way they should have."

The Warrior Run defense held Wellsboro's offense to only 23 yards rushing on 13 carries.

Derek Harsch was held to 23 yards on 11 attempts while Jamie Palmer only garnered 12 yards on four carries. Senior signal caller Jake Banik was under pressure the entire night as the Warrior Run inside linebackers tormented him for -22 yard rushing.

"They were sending their inside linebackers and our line wasn't picking them up," Pietropola said.

Not only did the Defender defense stifle the Wellsboro running attack, but shut down the Green Hornet passing game. Banik was only able to complete one pass on 10 attempts for five yards while two passes were picked off by the Defender secondary.

The Defenders were not only dominating on defense while holding Wellsboro to only two first downs the entire game, controlled the offensive game as well.

"They had a nice running back Luke Moore and our kids were not where they needed to be as far as their position," Pietropola said. "Warrior Run was big."

Moore racked up 192 yards rushing on 21 carries and three touchdowns to lead the Defender ground attack.

Warrior run garnered their first touchdown of the night two minutes into the first half on a Moore 55 yard touchdown run. The Defenders broke open the scoring with two more touchdowns in the first frame on runs from 13 and five yards out to hold a 21-0 lead going into the second quarter.

The Defenders went to the passing game in the second quarter for two touchdowns. Warrior Run pulled down passes of 18 and 12 yards for touchdowns and held a 34-0 halftime lead. Warrior Run had 102 yards passing for the game.

The Defenders scored twice in the second half. Once on a six yard rush in the third quarter and capped the night with a 25 yard run in the final frame for the 47-0 victory.

Wellsboro will be at home this Friday night when they host Cowanesque Valley (3-4) in a non league matchup.

If the Green Hornets are to snap their losing streak, they will have to stop the running game of Eldon Cummings and the passing of CV signal caller Paul Plummer.

The Green Hornets (1-6) will also have to generate an offensive game for themselves to come up with a win. In the last three games, Wellsboro has only scored three points.

"We are looking forward to the game," Pietropola said. "It's going to be a dogfight."

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
