Wellsboro blanks Montgomery.

The Wellsboro Green Hornets (3-3) football team picked up their second consecutive win Friday, October 4, with a non-league win over Montgomery.
"Our defense played well. They are the ones who kept us in the game," Wellsboro coach Russ Manney said.
Although the Hornets held Montgomery scoreless, Manney was concerned about the Wellsboro offense coming into the game.
"Statistically, we've only scored one touchdown in the first quarter," Manney said. "We looked at that the week before and thought we could do better."
"We started out slow and didn't put it in for the score until the second quarter. We have to eliminate that," he added.
Wellsboro wanted to keep the Montgomery defense guessing and did that by mixing up their plan of attack.
"We ran a couple of different formations and Osgood did well getting to certain people."
"We mixed it up a little took what they gave us," Manney continued. "It was not a high percentage game but we just got the big plays up."
In the second half, Wellsboro continued to dominate Montgomery and shut down their offense.
Each team ground out drives only to come up short.
Wellsboro remained committed to their cause and finally found their way back into the end zone late in the third quarter.
Matt Priset took the hand off with 32 seconds remaining in the frame and punched the ball into the end zone from four yards out to build Wellsboro's lead to 14-0. Pat Coolidge added his second extra point of the night. He also performed well on defense, pulling in an interception and returning it 24 yards.
Once again, Priset was the leading rusher. He ended the night with 81 yards on 21 carries. Brandon Keck added 54 yards to Wellsboro's rushing game.
Priset found his way back to the end zone with 6:38 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Priset is staying close to his 100 yards per game, and is edging his way to the 1,000 yard mark with 707 yards this season on 102 carries for a 6.9 yards-per-carry average.
Will Osgood has completed 45 of his 96 passing attempts for 755 yards and a 16.7 yards-per-completion average.
Wellsboro is set to face a tough Towanda team this Friday night.
"They (Towanda) are a tough team with a 5-1 record and a terrific quarterback," Manney said. "He's all over and does everything. He passes well and likes to run and has probably rushed for 400 yards in the last two or three weeks."
The Wellsboro offense will also have their work cut out for them against the strong Towanda defense.
"Defensively they are tough. They run a 4-4 and blitz everyone," Manney said. "They are physically strong."
Although the competition will be one of the Hornets' toughest this season, Manney said the Black Knights are beatable if the right combination comes together for the Hornets on the field.
"It will take all our effort," Manney admitted. "I still think we can beat them but we will need a solid offensive and disciplined defense."
