The Wellsboro Hornets opened their season on the gridiron by downing South Williamsport 25-14 in Wellsboro Friday night.
Canton finishes off win over Wellsboro.
TROY - When lightening forced the teams off the field on Saturday night the Canton Warriors found themselves ahead 8-2 with just over four minutes left in the half.

Time and time again, it looked like the Wellsboro Hornets would pull off an upset of undefeated Athens at home in the rain on Friday night.

The Hornets jumped all over Sayre Friday night in Wellsboro and came away with a convincing 46-12 win that evened their record at 2-2. Wellsboro's offense got the job done on the ground as Hornet rushers put up nearly 400 yards.
Lamphere, Baker help Towanda scorch Hornets.
Towanda - Lightning struck early Friday night and it wasn't just in the form of weather as Towanda quarterback Jake Lamphere and his go-to-guy R.J. Baker hooked up early and often as the two combined for 176 yards and four touchdowns through the air in the first half to carry the Black Knights to a 50-13 blazing of the Wellsboro Green Hornets.

USC was not the only Trojans team to get stung over the weekend.
Hornets trounce Montgomery.
The Wellsboro Hornets recorded their largest margin of victory during Friday night's Homecoming game and pitched their first shutout of the season as they downed winless Montgomery 54-0.
Hornets record second straight shutout.
Four different Hornets found the end zone Friday night while the defense held Cowanesque Valley (1-7) under 100 yards and scoreless to record their third win in a row and improve their record to 5-3.
Hornets drop a heartbreaker in overtime.
It took two overtime periods, but the Wyalusing Valley Rams (5-4) eked out a one-point overtime victory over the Wellsboro Hornets (5-4) Friday night in Wyalusing.
North Penn keeps trophy.
North Penn kicker Randon Wilston booted a 23 yard field goal in the third quarter to give his team the deciding points Friday night, but the big play of the night was a 63 yard scoring run by Kyle Atkinson as the Panthers kept the Morton Jones Memorial Trophy.
