Wellsboro's Cameron Jones lifted a 51 yard pass to Garrett Stager in the first offensive play of the night, as the Hornets traveled to East Juniata to take down the Tigers in a 55-17 victory.
The Hornets never looked back as they controlled the ball and dominated field possession during the entire matchup with the Tigers, improving to 6-3 for the season.
"Coming off a short week, after playing on Saturday, and entering unfamiliar territory with East Juniata, we knew what we had to do," commented Wellsboro head coach Chris Morral. "I was able to scout East Juniata the previous week, doing our homework and seeing just what we would need to focus on."
The Hornets jumped out early with both the offensive and defensive lines coming out and taking charge.
Steve Mengee also recorded a 10 yard touchdown for the Hornets in the first quarter to put Wellsboro up 14-0 before East Juniata's Cody Cutler garnered a 28 yard interception for a return into the end zone.
One of the pivotal plays of the game for Wellsboro was the 90 yard interception return for a touchdown by Jake Coolidge in the second quarter.
"Our guys were focused and mentally ready, even after a long road trip," Morral continued. "The entire squad is credited with this win. They pulled together, jumped on East Juniata early, and remained focused."
Mengee returned on a one yard run into the end zone with Ryan Moss also garnering a 26 yard interception return to score, leading 35-7 at the half.
Stager added a 25 yard pass to Jones in the third quarter to score for Wellsboro, while Ryan and brother Aaron Moss, each ran into the end zone, leading 55-7.
In the final minutes of the game, East Juniata recorded a 30 yard field goal, with a five yard run by Cutler to decrease the deficit to 17-55.
Pat Driebelbies recorded 13 carries for 83 yards rushing, Ryan Moss ran 7 times for 64 yards and Jake Coolidge ran four times for 22 yards, while Stager hauled in two passes for 76 yards receiving.
Jones has surpassed the record for Wellsboro in most passing yards in one season with 1,146, while tying Kyle Norton, (1997) for third place with eight touchdown passes in a single season.
Jake Coolidge has taken first place honors with 5 interceptions recorded in a single season and 241 intercepted yards.

The Hornets are now preparing for the year ending arch-rivalry matchup with the Panthers on Friday, October 31 - Halloween!!!!!
This is the annual Morton Jones Trophy matchup, in which North Penn has garnered the win over Wellsboro seven of the last nine seasons.
"This is rivalry week," stated Morral. "You never know what to expect - except a great game."
