Wellsboro has sure hit a rough patch this season on the field, battling back after seven consecutive losses in hopes of controlling the game, they played host to East Juniata in their final home matchup of the year with the lead over the Tigers until until the final quarter.

The Hornets played stronger than any other night, hungry for that home advantage victory, while defensively stopping the Tigers on several strong drives on the field.

Wellsboro recorded the first score of the night with a 39 yard pass from Nick Saniga to Ethan Callahan, with the extra point placed through the uprights by freshman Ben Shaw, holding a 7-0 lead through the first three quarters.

Halfway through the fourth quarter, East Juniata's Wade Truitt drove the ball through the defensive line into the end zone from one yard out, adding the two point conversion to squeeze by Wellsboro and secure their Class AAA playoff berth with the 8-7 win.

East Juniata recorded 208 yards rushing compared to 100 yards for the Hornets.

Shaw posted 62 yards on five completions passing, along with Saniga's 49 yards on two completions. Ryan Moss rushed for 79 yards total and Thomas Johnston garnered 61 yards on four receptions.

Also on defense, Johnston posted 16 tackles, Caleb Getty recorded 11, and Nate Luczak added 10. Johnston has now recorded a season high 131 tackles, which currently holds third place in Wellsboro's record books*, only 13 behind Aaron Moss' second place total.

Wellsboro now posts a 1-8 record and will travel to Island Park in Blossburg on Friday, November 6 to face off with arch rivals, the Panthers of North Penn, in search of the annual Morton F. Jones Trophy. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
