WESTFIELD - Both Cowanesque Valley and Troy held to their season norm, duplicating what they have done many times this season. The Trojans scored often and quickly in the first half while the Indians never say die and scored late in Troy's 41-12 victory.

Troy began their first half scoring barrage on their first possession with three consecutive runs by Matt Oldroyd, gaining 22 yards. Lucas Havens then connected with Clayton Schucker for 22 yards to the 18-yard line. Then Havens kept the ball on the option and scooted 18 yards for the first touchdown of the game. Mason Jones then missed the extra point, a rarity for him.

Cowanesque tried to break their MO with a sustained drive on their first possession by the legs of Tyler Bowers and Chris Gunn and aided by a pass interference call. Four motion calls hindered the drive that ended when Havens picked off a Trevor Adriance pass at the ten and returned it to the 47-yard line.

Havens had an all-round game with a touchdown run, an interception to halt a drive, and completing four-of-four passes for 36 yards. He also had five carries for 69 yards.

The Trojans wasted no time in scoring. On the second play of the next possession, Matt Oldroyd took the handoff and raced 46 yards down the home sidelines for the score with 33 second left in the first quarter for a 13-0 lead. Oldroyd ended the night with 118 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns.

Two plays into the second quarter, Troy's defense jumped into the scoring column when Stephan Muir pressured Adriance, who threw an interception on a screen pass. Tanner Bulkley jumped in front of the receiver and scored easily from 20 yards out.

After CV punted, the Trojans moved down field with a drive that ended in three straight runs by Hayden White. On the last carry, White scored from the one to give the Trojans a 34-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, on their first possession, Troy again marched downfield. Matt Oldroyd ran twice for 29 yards and Marcus Oldroyd capped the drive with a five yard touchdown plunge.

Cowanesque finally assembled a scoring drive at the end of the third quarter. Adriance hit John Hallet for 22 yards near midfield. Bowers added a 13 yard run before turning the corner on a sweep and scoring from 32 yards out.

On the extra point, Troy's Chase Brown burst through the line on the extra point to pick up the blocked kick.

After Troy turned the ball over on downs, the Indians put together an impressive 90 yard drive. Freshman Quarterback Brandon Whitesell sparked the drive with two completions - one to Hallet for 28 yards and another to Anthony Monroe for 33 yards.

Bowers added his second score on an 11 yard run. Bowers finished the game with 61 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. Gunn had 20 carries for 100 yards.
