Burleigh throws for 342 as North Penn tops Athens.

2014 North Penn vs. Athens FootballBLOSSBURG - With Athens keying on the North Penn-Mansfield running game the Panthers went to the air on Friday night in a 40-12 victory over the Wildcats.

Bo Burleigh completed 16-of-22 passes for a career-high 342 yards in the Panthers victory.

"Our offense, we kind of only beat ourselves," North Penn coach Tom Dickinson said. "We had some mistakes that we have to eliminated, but we moved it nicely. They (Athens) played well. The running game wasn't there so we threw it.

"He (Burleigh) put a lot of balls right on the money. When there is that many weapons and you can spread it around to them it helps."

Bryce Zaparzynski started the North Penn scoring as ran in from 17-yards out with 5:54 left in the opening quarter. The two-point pass failed and it was 6-0.

Athens tied the game at 4:39 when Tyler Forbes ran in from a yard out. The kick failed and it was 6-6.

North Penn answered right back as Burleigh hit Zaparzynski on a 59-yard touchdown and the run failed to make it 12-6.

With 2:31 left before the half Brad Pequignot ran in from a yard out and Zaparzynski had a two-point run to make it 20-6.

Zaparzynski had a two-yard run with 9:18 left in the third and the pass failed to make it 26-6. Zaparzynski caught an 18-yard touchdown from Burleigh with 4:09 left in the quarter and the run failed.

Luke Kelly caught a 35-yard touchdown from Burleigh with 11:54 left in the game and Zaparzynski had the two-point run to make it 40-6.

Athens capped the scoring with 3:57 left on a nine-yard scoring run by Matt Collins. The two-point pass failed.

Zaparzynski had four touchdowns and caught three passes for 104 yards, while running 15 times for 51 yards.

Levi Christman had six catches for 120 yards and had 25 yards rushing on two carries and Kelly had three grabs for 63 yards, while Dayton Wood had four grabs for 55 yards.

Pequignot had 46 yards on eight carries and Don Edwards ran three times for 21 yards. Tyler Frost gained five yards on the ground.

Brandon Sturzenegger ran 11 times for 45 yards for Athens and Peyton Lewis ran four times for 48 yards. Kalen Keathley had nine carries for 31 yards and Collins had two carries for 18 yards, while Forbes ran eight times for 19 yards. Sean Watlman had seven yards on the ground, Justin Reagan had three yards and Aaron Barry had four yards.

Cody Cain had a catch for 18 yards, Austin Lister a catch for 15 yards, Zane Vargason a catch for 12 yards, and Hunter Allen and Sturzenneger added catches.
