The new WellsboroFootball.com website is up and running just in time for the 2008 season. The new website will still feature many of the same features in the old website, but there have been major updates in the new site.
The first of many updates is the team's history. With help from Middle School Coach Chris Reese, Athletic Director Sherri Prough, and many former players, website visitors can now re-live their old playing days with team stats, records, rosters, and more with WellsboroFootball.com's new History Section. Although this section is not 100% complete, Coach Ed Weaver is gathering as much information about the program's past as he can. If you have anything from your playing days and would like to see it on this site, please contact Coach Weaver.
Along with all the information added to the History Section, new Game Highlights have been added to the site dating back to the 2000 season. Senior Jared DeBlois has helped to input many of the articles from the Wellsboro Gaette into the site for his Senior Project.
Scrimmage Information.

This weekend, the Hornets will travel to Coudersport for a tri-scrimmage with Coudersport and Johnsonburg. The scrimmage will take place at Coudersport's High School practice field at 10:00 a.m.

After a successful week at Lycoming College, the Wellsboro Hornet Varsity team will be off the field for the week before starting training camp on August 11. There are, however, important dates to keep in mind of this week. On Tuesday, August 5, all players are expected to report to the Middle School new gym for equipment pickup. All Varsity participants should report at 4:00 p.m., while all Middle School participants should report at 5:00 p.m. There is also a mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday, August 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the high school, where all rules and regulations will be outlined for the upcoming season.

The 18th annual District 4 North-South All Star Game took place at South Williamsport on Friday, June 27, 2008. The North defeated the South this year by a score of 20-7. Read more of the story here.
Summer Plyometric Workouts.

Dates for this summer's plyometric workouts have just been announced. Coach Singer will be doing workouts Tuesday and Thursday mornings starting June 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Coach DeLeonardis will also be doing a workout session starting on June 24 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All athletes are strongly encouraged to make one of these sessions.

District IV All-Star Game Announced.

The date for the 2008 District IV All-Star game has just been announced. This year's game will be played at South Williamsport's Rodney K. Morgans stadium on Friday, June 27 at 7:00 p.m. A $5.00 donation for adults and a $3.00 donation for students will be required to get in to the game. The Hornets will be represented this year by senior captain Colton Acorn.

All money raised from website advertising will be used by the Wellsboro Gridders Club to help send the team to the annual Lycoming College camp, help with equipment purchases, and the end of the year banquet.
All Sports Banquet Recap

The Wellsboro Booster Club held their annual All Sports Banquet last night in the Wellsboro High School Gym. The banquet recognizes not only senior athletes and their accomplishments, but accomplishments by all athletes throughout the entire school year. Throughout the course of the night, the Booster Club and Athletic Director Sherri Prough recognized teams, coaches, captains, coaches' award recipients, and outstanding player award recipients from every sport.
Once all the athletic teams were introduced, the athletic memorial awards were presented. Jake Coolidge and Cameron Jones received the Rev. Wade Stewart and John Wilcox awards respectively for their contributions to the football team. Colton Acorn received the Outstanding Football Player Award and Chris Copp received the Coaches' Award from Head Coach Chris Morral. Other Memorial Award Recipients include Katelin Peropat (Ray Strykowski and Shelly Tayton awards), Will Mitchell (Larue Wilson award), Kristin Stam (Laura Grove Patterson award), and Zachary Cerrone (Roger Dibble award).
The biggest awards of the night were saved for last. The John Prevost Memorial Awards are presented to the Male and Female Athletes of the Year. This year, Corvin Oberholtzer and Carolyn Mitchell were selected as the winners. Corvin has participated in Cross Country, Wrestling, and Track for the last four years, while Carolyn has participated in Soccer, Basketball, Softball, and Track over the same time span. Congratulations are in order for these two athletes, along with the rest of the senior class, as they exhibited the strength, determination, and dedication to the respective sports throughout their high school careers.
2008 Sport Physicals.

The Wellsboro Athletic Department is changing how student sport physicals will be conducted. Beginning this year, students will only be required to take one physical for the entire year, no matter how many sports the student plans on participating in.
Physical Dates
2008 Junior and Senior Athletes - June 4, 2008 in Room 130 of the High School.
2008 Freshman and Sophomore Athletes - June 6, 2008 in Room 130 of the High School.
The dates above will be the only dates the Athletic Department will give physicals for the 2008 season. If you miss your scheduled exam day, you will need to schedule a time with your physician before the scheduled starting date of your sport.
